Hi, I'd Like
To Submit to Taylorverse Books.
FAQ
What about my novel?
Sorry. We're not accepting unsolicited novels at this point.
What about the money?
For poetry and short story collections, you'll get 50 percent of royalties off all sales, both print and digital (also includes any audiobooks in the case that we decide your book needs one). In certain rare cases, we may offer you a modest (i.e., small) advance. You'll also receive two copies of the finished book for yourself. You'll be able to purchase additional copies to sell at events at cost plus shipping.
For themed anthologies, we will reveal any payment information at the time of the announcement for the anthology. Depending on things like licensing fees, etc., expect anything from a modest (i.e., small) advance or just royalties split among the writers. You'll also receive one copy of the finished book for yourself. You'll be able to purchase additional copies to sell at events at cost plus shipping.
What rights are you getting?
All we want is first-time print and ebook rights. If we decide to issue a new edition, we will negotiate those rights then. In themed anthologies, after our volume is in print, you will have the right to print your story in a collection of your own making (or a short story collection you want to pitch to us), but we ask that you wait one year before doing that.
How long will it be before I hear back from you after a submission?
Under ideal circumstances, expect a response within two months. This is one of the reasons we have a reading and submission period rather than accepting them all year long.
However, unforeseen events can happen at any time, so if you haven't heard back within two months, feel free to email us and ask when in the process your submission might be.
What's it going to cost me?
Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Unless you want to bring on your own cover artist. Then that's between you and that person. We will not charge you to publish your book.
What's your take on AI?
We don't use it. Period. If it wrote your book in any way, shape, or form, please don't send it to us. If you designed a cover using AI, we will not use it. If you used AI to pre-think or help proofread your book, then we expect you to fill us in on exactly what that entailed. We'll make a decision from there.
Will you do all my publicity and social media?
Sorry. Ain't happening. We will update and promote through our channels, but we also expect you to be diligent in working your channels as well, including social media, local newspapers, etc.
Okay, so what do you do for my book?
We're glad you asked. We will professionally proofread and edit your book. Then we will lay out your print and ebook and make them available on our online store, on Amazon, and at various conventions. We will promote your book through our social media and other outlets that may come up. As a small, indie publisher, we're looking for authors who want the opportunity to partner and dig in to help build a budding writing career.
Who do I sent it to?
During reading season, send all pitches to submissions@taylorversebooks.com
We're so thrilled that you want to submit to Taylorverse Books.
However, we're currently not in our reading season for manuscripts.
When we are reading, here's what we're looking for:
-
Poetry (chapbooks and full collections)
-
Short story collections
-
Short stories for themed anthologies (to be announced)
Poetry
We are looking for contemporary, modern--dare we say edgy--poetry that isn't afraid the challenge and explore the world as it is, not just the romanticized version found in so much of verse. Rhymed or unrhymed, metered or free verse, you're welcome to follow the rules or discard them willy-nilly. What we want is your work that says something both unique to you and something about the world we live in.
Chapbooks should include between 20 and 30 poems.
Collections should include 50 to 80 poems, depending on length, enough to fill roughly 100 pages of a trade paperback book.
Short Story Collections
Genre be damned. We're looking for just about anything you write in the short form. Action. Adventure. Sci-fi. Horror. Thriller. Psychological. Literary. Romance. Western. Mainstream. Avant garde. Experimental. Better yet, mix a few of those up in a blender and send us that.
We're looking for stories with a distinct voice.
Collections should run between 60k and 80k words.
Themed Anthology Submissions
We will be publishing a few themed anthologies. These will be particularly specific in regard to the subject matter. All we ask is that you follow the guidelines concerning length and the topic or theme of the book. When one of these is announced, we will also give you all the details you need.
